When asked what piece of furniture they would take from home if limited only to one, many folks choose their KITCHEN TABLE.

The one from Dwight’s childhood home sits on our porch, dating from 1931 when his parents were married and “set up housekeeping.”  Their kitchen was small — the table took up half the available space!  It was the centerpiece of the room.

Here meals were eaten, homework done, cookies rolled, letters written, prayers said, problems shared, decisions made, tears wiped...  It was more than just a table — it was (and is now and always will be) SACRED SPACE… HOLY GROUND… filled with all the memories of life and love and wisdom experienced when sitting around it.  It was always there — a symbol of constancy in the midst of the ups and downs of the days of living — —  just the way GOD is for each of us.

Hebrews 13:8 assures us  that God is the same — “yesterday, today and tomorrow.”

How wonderful is that???

God is ALWAYS on our side — ever encouraging us to be our best self , strengthening us when we ask, loving us unconditionally, always waiting to welcome us home if we stray…  If God had a refrigerator, YOUR picture  would be on it —  (and of course everyone else’s would be too!)

God has often been compared to a ROCK… a source of stability and strength — safety and refuge — always trustworthy and reliable.  God doesn’t promise that we won’t have tough times in life, but when we do— God is always present to love us and to give us strength to get through them.

A new favorite with the choir is the anthem HOLD ON TO THE ROCK by Pepper Choplin.  Click here to listen to our choir sing it at last June's choir festival at First Church. The text points out that it is easy to keep the faith when everything is going well, but “when life shakes us to our very soul…. Who you gonna trust and where you gonna go ???”

Answer: “ You’ve got to hold on to the Rock of Ages … the Cornerstone… the Sure Foundation…” and that rock, foundation, cornerstone is ———

G. O. D.

Join us Sunday and listen to our choir (with Tom Lauher as soloist ) sing this rousing anthem and reaffirm that God is the Rock, Foundation and Cornerstone in your own life. You will be so glad you did!
