Musings from linda 11/11/22

🎶 🎶 I’ve got RHYTHM, I’ve got music …. who could ask for anything MORE ?! 🎶 🎶

Thus begins the old Gershwin song …

When you DON’T have rhythm, it is painfully obvious!! The dancer who lacks rhythm is hard to watch ( or to dance with !) and a singer or instrumentalist who can’t stay with the beat not only “sticks out” but is apt to throw the whole choir or orchestra off as well. On the other hand, someone who has a great sense of rhythm just FLOWS “in sync” — and seemingly effortlessly!

The same is true for our LIFE RHYTHM …

It can be: Frantic — or more calmly measured …

Loving — or bitter, angry and resentful …

Centered — or disjointed and frazzled …

The rhythm of life is different from our daily “routine” … It might be described as a way of living that brings our multiple daily activities into harmony with our Creator — who is the maestro directing the music of our days. That’s not to say there won’t be tough days or frustrating or sad or difficult times, but with God as our dance partner, we are able to move through them with more grace because we are moving together to the beat of God’s Love…

Howard Thurman, in his poem “The Threads In My Hand,” speaks of the countless different threads we hold in our lives that connect us to so MANY things …

But he tells us that there is one additional thread that we hold—

“It is my steadying thread.

God’s hand holds the other end…”

In worship this Sunday, our choir will sing “CREATE A RHYTHM” (click here to listen)

Composed by Pepper Choplin, it is an energetic (and very rhythmic!) prayer:

“ O Lord, create a rhythm in my heart and soul…

From the mountains to the oceans there’s a rhythm through all the earth

Every creature, every human moves in a rhythm upon their birth…”

As you listen, ask yourself — “How’s the rhythm in my life going?”
