“After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music”   Aldous Huxley

Our adult choir, directed by Bill Clemmons, aims to provide outstanding choral music every Sunday from September through June. We sing sacred music of all styles — classical, gospel, folk, jazz, contemporary…and have FUN doing it!  In addition, we sing at special services on Christmas Eve and Maundy Thursday and look forward each year to participating in the town-wide interfaith Thanksgiving service and the Consociation Choir Festival on the first Sunday afternoon in May.  On Palm Sunday, we traditionally present a major work.  Past experiences have included such works as Faure’s  “Requiem”,  Vivaldi’s  “Gloria”, selections from Rutter’s “Requiem”, or the “Messiah.”

REHEARSALS (September through June):

Thursdays  7:15pm  (in the community room)

Sundays     9:15am  (in the sanctuary)

No auditions for the choir are required and, though helpful, the ability to read music is not necessary.  One only needs a love of singing — and enthusiasm for making a “joyful noise unto the Lord!”  Please join us any Thursday!

For Sunday Worship, choir members wear no robes or specific dress; we sit in the pews with our families and friends and assemble when it is time to sing.  Instrumental accompaniment includes our grand piano and Moller pipe organ — along with a variety of instruments which enhance many of the anthems.  One never knows what special musical experience a Sunday will bring!

The love and caring that the members of the choir have for each other clearly translates to how we sing during worship to the Glory of God!  Members of the congregation and visitors alike have commented for years on the spirit and variety of the music at NMCC.  We invite you to join with us in the making of music at NMCC in the choir, or in other capacities, such as instrumental, solos, duets or group performances.

Choir Festival – NMCC gathers every year with other choirs of the United Church of Christ New Haven East Consociation to celebrate music!  NMCC hosted the festival in 2018. The festival concludes with all choirs singing together.
