Yoga

NMCC has offered community yoga classes since 2013.  We currently offer 2 classes per week, held year around (with a 2-week break in late August), led by Kathy Bannon, a 200-hour certified yoga instructor and certified personal trainer.  See Kathy’s story below for more details about our classes.

Attention all NMCC yogis or anyone interested in joining our warm, welcoming yoga community.  Our current yoga session began the first week of March and runs through the end of April.  Monday night classes meet at 6:30 and run from 3/2-4/27.  The Monday night session price is $65.00.  Thursday night’s session begins on 3/5 and runs through 4/30.  Thursday night classes begin at 6:15 and cost $60.00.  There will be no Thursday night class on 4/9 due to an Easter week program at the church.  As always, sign up for both sessions and receive a discount- both evenings for $120.00.  Walk-ins welcome at $10 per session.  Questions? Kathy Bannon is a 200-hour certified yoga instructor through Pranakriya School of Healing Arts and certified personal trainer through the National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM).   She is currently continually furthering her yoga studies and will complete an additional 300-hour training through Asheville Yoga Center this summer.

Students in Kathy’s classes are encouraged to honor their unique body, use props and modify poses to best support their practice.  Classes are gently paced in the Kripalu tradition and students are guided through a meditative flow.

Kathy began her yoga journey to reduce stress from a demanding work schedule and family issues that felt insurmountable.  Yoga proved to be the respite she craved and an important pathway to self-discovery.   The practice offered a means to quiet the mind for self-exploration while gaining physical strength and flexibility.
