If you ever have a chance to see any of them, anywhere, don't miss the opportunity! For general questions about the series, or for questions from artists and their agents, click here.
WORKSHOPS To keep everyone on their toes over the summer, I'll be adding links to any clips I find of interest, any picking sessions we get going, and just general music-related stuff. PLUS: we will be doing a one-day fiddle camp for all those interested in the Scots national fiddle championship thing, which we ran out of time for on Saturday. Stay tuned, and don't be afraid to bug me for any updates by emailing here FALL SCHEDULE!! It gets hard to say "better than ever" but it's still as good as it can get! SEPT. 12 THE HOT CLUB OF COWTOWN So how much do I like the Hot Club? The stickers on my truck (real old) and the sticker from a year or so ago on Emily's violin, when the Hot Club was on a short hiatus. Elana's the fiddler/singer. Anyway, I've been trying for almost 4 years to get them. Those of you who were at the Crooked Still concert a couple of years ago might remember how I had 3 or 4 "really big fish" I was trying to get. Crooked Still was one, and the Hot Club of Cowtown is another. I can't say enough about them. As entertaining as anyone we've ever had, maybe more so. Think vintage tube amps, old Gibson L-5 guitars, wicked slap bass. These are the coolest of the cool. Period. I don't know about you, but I'll be sitting in the front row. Texas Swing, Hot Western Jazz; they simply cook. An absolute blast of an evening. I highly suggest emailing soon for the best seats. Adults $20, kids $5, as always. And ice cream. Buffalo Crunch? Cinnamon Bob Wills? We'll find out.
Their really great website, which has a video page of great stuff.
AND, IN A STUNNING CHANGE OF SCHEDULING (THINK A MIXTURE OF CONFUSION, MY INCOMPETENCE, DISORGANIZATION, ETC., ETC.)
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3 A NOR'EASTER MAKE-UP SHOW WITH BEARFOOT!!!! Yes, their last show in January was snowed out, but even then 140 or so people showed up. While we still had a blast, it didn't seem fair to those who couldn't plow through 8 inches of snow, rain, ice wind, and assorted muck, so they're back to set things right, and at the same time, launch their new CD. No need to go in to too much detail here, they're simply not only one of THE hottest bands on the circuit right now, they're good, long-time friends. See them this fall, as it may be the last time we'll be able to fit them in, due to their rapidly growing audience size. The festival circuit (think Merlefest, among others) has been buzzing more about them than anyone else. Catch them now!! adults $20, kids $5
AND, ON NOVEMBER SOMETHING well, I'm still a little disorganized here. I'll know in one week, promise. I think. Scheduling conflicts and tour routing made it impossible to have Laura Love and Russ Barenberg here this fall, so we're having them come next spring. Put them on your calendar as soon as the dates are set, as I think the world of both of them.

"Fire in the kitchen" is
an old saying for traditional music house parties from Scotland and
Ireland, over to Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island, down through the
Appalachians, and all the way to Louisiana. It's foot stompin' roots
music full of fiddles, guitars, accordions and all manner of homemade
instruments. No matter where it comes from, you can't sit still when
you hear it.
The main
mission of our series is to bring you some of the finest roots
musicians in the world, with special emphasis on Celtic-inspired music
from Ireland, Scotland, and North America. A related mission is to
showcase young or unheralded talent, as it helps them to be seen, and
allows us to experience the growth of some fantastic performers. Bands
that have played here have also played some pretty impressive places,
like the Sydney Opera House.
As a bonus, we try to arrange for workshops for local amateur musicians, led by the performers themselves. We're
very proud of the fact that artists who play here consider it one of
their favorite venues world-wide, and are always asking to come back
and play again. The acoustics, the ambience, and the audience are
all first-rate!
