sundayschool

As a church learning to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we teach what it means to be a disciple in church, at home and in school. In a safe and enjoyable environment, we share in learning activities shaped by the Gospel, open and alive to the individual gifts and abilities of our youth and teachers, always seeking practical ways of living out our maturing faith.

Kids_Palm_SundayAll children and youth are welcome to attend Sunday Church School! We have a wonderful program here at North Madison Congregational Church.  Along with our weekly curriculum, the children are involved in many special programs.

At 9:45am, children are welcomed in their Church School classes in preparation for their worship. At 10:00 am, the teachers escort the children to the Community Room for a specially designed youth service. On the first Sunday of each month, all students are invited to share in an Agape Meal during the Community Room service. Our teachers, Junior Deacons, and other eager volunteers from our congregation help lead this service. Parents are always welcome. Following the worship the children go to their workshops.

Currently, we are teaching our Church School children using the “rotation model.” The rotation model offers opportunities for the children to learn Bible stories and faith principles through a variety of strategies such as storytelling, art, cooking, drama, movies, and more. In the brief time we have been using this model, we've discovered that even the youngest of our children retain more of the lessons, and both students and teachers are more energized and enthusiastic.

Palm2008ProcessionA nursery is staffed by volunteers and is available for the care of newborns to three-year-olds.

And for those students looking for a little more involvement, our junior and senior youth groups are very active at NMCC. The youth groups participate in regular outings such as rafting and wall climbing.

The 7th & 8th grade class is combined and enjoys a different curriculum.  Each Sunday they begin their class with a Gospel lesson which is then expanded upon by the teacher.  It is our wish that the cirriculum for these grades be both challenging and interesting to our middle school students.  We discuss values and how they tie in with what the Bible teaches us as well as how we see and experience those values in our world today.

We hope that your child will find Church School an enjoyable and informative place to be.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the church office at 203-421-3241.
