SYG Winter Fun Weekend in Old Lyme, January 16-18
In an economy that has all of us "tightening our belts", it has been determined that a ski trip would not be in the best interest of all of our budgets this year. Ahaa, but before you sigh too heavily, we have an alternative of fun, fellowship and frolicing at the rambling old retreat house on the CT River where we held our September retreat. Come join us for Friday night through Sunday morning. We will be playing some games, watching movies, cooking yummy "eats" and perhaps doing some "Dinner Theater" planning. The first twenty SYG members to submit $25 with their permission slips will be going. One more male and female adult will be needed in addition to the Chris and Lyndia team! Email questions to
nmcc.youth@cshore.com Ask Chris to email a permission slip to you if you haven't already gotten one.
SYG New York Road Trip February 20-21
The first eight SYG members who register are invited to be a part of a group of students who will travel from Madison to the Youth Service Opportunities Project www.ysop.org in New York City, sleeping on church floors, eating with those we are helping, performing community service along the way. This project is organized by the youth leadership of the First Congregational Church, the North Madison Congregational Church, St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, and the Unitarian Universalist Society. The trip is partially funded by a grant in Madison. The trip will cost approximately $50.00. Please email Chris with any questions at nmcc.youth@cshore.com
Mission Trip Parent Task Force for Future Trips
In order to have cost-friendly and yet meaningful mission trips, it was discussed at the mission trip meeting in September to set up a "parent task force" that can work on finding destinations and options and presenting these ideas for future year's trips. If you would like to help with this important issue, please email me directly at nmcc.youth@cshore.com and I will plan a meeting in the early part of 2009.
Dinner Theater Planning for SYG
The Dinner Theater theme discussed at the recent youth group meeting was "The Oscars". Ellen Schneider has offered to lead a committee made up so far of: Avery Hopkins, Dan Kilburn and Jack Kane. If you have ideas or would like to participate in the early-stage ideas for this fun event, please chat with Ellen or email me at nmcc.youth@cshore.com and I will compile the ideas I hear about and share them with the committee.
SYG Plays Football on Madison Green on Super Bowl Sunday
Mark your calendar to play our own Super Bowl Sunday Football Game on Madison Green. Dan Kilburn and Jack Butler are organizing the game with St. Margaret’s Catholic Church. All are welcome. This will be a flag or safe two-hand touch co-ed game. In the meantime, I hope your football training sessions are coming along!!
Mission Trip 1st Installment due
The 1st of two installments was due by December 31 for the Mission Trip to New Orleans. Please mail your check for $300 to NMCC, Attn: Chris Solimene 1271 Durham Road North Madison, CT 06443. Please mark the youth member or chaperone's name in the memo section of the check. This will leave a balance due of $300 or less, depending on our fundraising efforts. If you haven't signed up and still want to go, I have a few openings put aside so email me ASAP at nmcc.youth@cshore.com
Taize’ Prayer Service to begin at NMCC
Wherever you are on life’s journey, do you long to connect with the mystery that lies at the heart of your heart? Beautiful meditative songs, a psalm and Bible reading, a period of silence for reflection and intercessions for our world and each other make this simple service very meaningful for all adults and teens. Chris and his wife have visited Taize, France and witnessed this internationally acclaimed ecumenical style of service that has become a pilgrimage destination for young people from over 70 countries on a weekly basis. Churches of all denominations embrace the Taize model. Watch the bulletin for more info or email Chris at nmcc.youth@cshore.com
